When your child completes a placement check for a subject, Aletheia generates a placement summary visible in your parent dashboard. This guide explains how to read it, how to change it, and how to turn it off for specific subjects.
Where to Find Placement Results
- Log in to your parent account at aletheiatutor.com
- From your Dashboard, click the child's name or profile card
- Select the Subjects tab (or scroll to the subjects section)
- Each enrolled subject shows a Placement badge or level indicator
You'll see one of the following for each subject:
- Placed at [Grade/Level] â the AI-assigned starting point
- Pending â the placement check hasn't been completed yet
- Overridden â you've manually set the level
How to Read the Results
The placement result for each subject shows:
| Field | What it means |
|---|---|
| Placed level | The grade/level Aletheia selected as the starting point |
| Confidence | How certain the AI is (Low / Medium / High) |
| Strong areas | Concepts your child answered correctly and consistently |
| Gap areas | Topics where answers were incorrect or inconsistent |
| Date assessed | When the placement check was completed |
Note: Confidence is based on how many questions were answered and how consistent the pattern was. A low-confidence placement just means the AI had less data â it isn't a negative signal about your child.
How to Override a Placement
You can manually change the starting level for any subject at any time:
- From your dashboard, click your child's profile
- Go to the Subjects tab
- Find the subject you want to adjust and click Edit Placement (pencil icon)
- Use the level selector to choose the grade or unit you'd like to start from
- Click Save â the change takes effect on the next session
When you override a placement, the system records it as a manual override. Future automatic re-placements will still occur as your child progresses, but the starting point will be your chosen level.
Tip: If your child is advanced in a subject, feel free to set a higher level. If they struggled, set a lower one. You know your child best â the placement is a starting point, not a ceiling.
How to Reset the Placement (Let the AI Re-assess)
To clear the current placement and have your child retake the check:
- Click Edit Placement on the subject
- Click Reset to Placement Check
- Confirm â your child will be prompted to complete the check on their next session
This is useful if your child has been learning independently and you want Aletheia to find their new, higher starting point.
How to Disable Placement Testing Per Subject
If you'd prefer Aletheia to always start a subject from the beginning without running a placement check:
- Go to the subject's Settings (gear icon next to the subject card)
- Toggle off Run placement check on first session
- Save
When placement is disabled for a subject, Aletheia begins at the first unit for that subject's default grade level. You can still manually set a starting level at any time.
When to disable: Some homeschool curricula have a specific sequence you want to follow from the start. Disabling placement lets you keep that structure while still using Aletheia's adaptive tutoring within each lesson.
Frequently Asked Questions
My child's placement seems too low. Why? The placement check is conservative by design â it's better to start slightly below level and accelerate quickly than to start too high and build frustration. If the level seems off, override it.
My child's placement seems too high. Will they struggle? Aletheia's adaptive system will notice within the first few sessions and adjust difficulty downward. You can also manually lower the placement at any time.
Can I see the actual questions from the placement check? The individual questions aren't stored for review, but the gap areas and strong areas in the summary reflect what the AI learned from your child's responses.
