Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions about Aletheia.
What is Aletheia?
Aletheia is an AI-powered tutoring platform for K-12 learners, roughly ages 5-18. It combines a conversational AI tutor with quizzes, flashcards, study guides, homework help, and progress tracking to make personalized learning accessible for every family.
What age range is Aletheia designed for?
Aletheia supports children and teens across K-12, roughly ages 5-18. The tutor adapts language, pacing, examples, and difficulty to the child's age range, grade level, and learning history.
What subjects does Aletheia cover?
Aletheia covers core school subjects including Math, Reading & Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Spelling & Vocabulary, and Foreign Languages. Grade-level packages help recommend a starting set of subjects, and parents can adjust subjects later.
How is Aletheia different from other tutoring apps?
Unlike apps with fixed content libraries, Aletheia's AI tutor responds dynamically to exactly what your child asks. It can explain concepts, guide homework practice, generate custom quizzes, create flashcards and study guides, and track mastery in a natural conversation.
Is Aletheia safe for children?
Yes. Aletheia is designed with child safety as a priority. The AI is configured for educational use, conversations are available for parental review, and children cannot interact with other users.
Is Aletheia COPPA compliant?
Yes. Aletheia is built around COPPA requirements: parents create and control child profiles, children are not shown ads, and children's data is never sold. See our Privacy & COPPA article for full details.
How do children sign in?
Children can sign in with a family code + PIN, or with a child email account if a parent enables that option. Child email accounts can use a password, Google sign-in, or Apple sign-in after setup starts from a parent-sent setup link. See Child Account Setup & SSO.
Can my child use Google or Apple to sign in?
Yes, if a parent enables a child email account and sends the setup email. The child must first use that setup link to connect Google or Apple. After that, they can use the regular sign-in page with the connected account.
What is Apple Hide My Email?
Apple's Hide My Email may give Aletheia a private relay email address instead of your child's real email. That is normal and supported. Your child should keep using the same Apple ID for sign-in.
How do I resend a child setup email?
Sign in as a parent, go to Children, open the child's account setup controls, and choose Send setup email or Resend setup email. If the old link expired, the new email gives your child a fresh setup link.
How many children can I add?
- Free plan: 1 active child profile
- Starter plan: 1 active child profile with full features
- Family plan: Up to 5 active child profiles
- Family+ plan: Up to 10 active child profiles
Archived children do not count as active child seats. If your Family+ household needs more than 10 active children, contact support.
Can I try Aletheia for free?
Yes. The Free plan gives you one child profile with a limited number of tutoring sessions per week. No credit card is required to sign up.
Does Aletheia test my child before starting?
Yes. When you add a subject, Aletheia can run a short placement check to find the right starting level. Grade packages recommend a starting curriculum; placement checks adjust within a subject based on what your child already knows.
What are grade packages?
Grade packages are recommended subject and curriculum starting points based on your child's grade level. They help Aletheia suggest age-appropriate work quickly. Parents can adjust the subjects and grade level later. See Grade Packages & Personalization.
Can I change my child's grade level later?
Yes. Open the child profile from the parent dashboard and edit the profile details. After changing grade level, review subjects and placements so the learning path still matches your child.
What if the placement result seems wrong?
You can override the placement for any subject directly from your parent dashboard. Go to your child's profile, open the Subjects tab, and click Edit Placement next to the subject you want to adjust. See Understanding Placement Results.
Can my child retake the placement check?
Yes. From your parent dashboard, open your child's profile, find the subject, click Edit Placement, and select Reset to Placement Check. Your child will be prompted to complete it on their next session.
What is Privacy Shield?
Privacy Shield is an optional feature on Family and Family+ plans that routes AI processing through privacy-first model infrastructure. It is designed to reduce provider retention and prevent training on your child's conversations. See Privacy & COPPA.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There are no contracts or cancellation fees. Manage your plan from Billing. Your plan remains active until the end of the current billing period.
How does billing work?
Billing is handled through Stripe-hosted checkout and customer portal flows. Monthly and annual billing are available where offered, and plan changes may include Stripe-managed proration or payment confirmation. See Subscription Plans & Pricing and Billing Questions.
What devices does Aletheia work on?
Aletheia is a web app that works on modern desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones. We recommend Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge.
Why do I need to verify my email?
When you sign up with an email address and password, we require email verification before you can add children or subjects. This supports child safety, security alerts, and account recovery. If you signed up with Google, your email is automatically verified.
How do I reset my password?
Go to aletheiatutor.com/signin, click Forgot password?, enter your email, and follow the reset email. If you use Google or Apple sign-in, use that provider button instead of a password reset.
I can't add my child - what's wrong?
Common causes are an unverified parent email, incomplete COPPA parental consent, or hitting your active child seat limit. Archived profiles do not count as active child seats, but deleted or archived status may take a dashboard refresh to show.
