Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions about Aletheia.
What is Aletheia?
Aletheia is an AI-powered tutoring platform designed for children ages 5–14. It combines a conversational AI tutor with quizzes, flashcards, and progress tracking to make personalized learning accessible for every family.
What age range is Aletheia designed for?
Aletheia supports children ages 5–14. The AI tutor automatically adapts its language, explanations, and difficulty to your child's age group — simpler and more encouraging for younger learners, more detailed and challenging for older ones.
What subjects does Aletheia cover?
Aletheia covers core school subjects including Math, Reading & Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Spelling & Vocabulary, and Foreign Languages. The AI can help with nearly any school topic your child brings to it.
How is Aletheia different from other tutoring apps?
Unlike apps with fixed content libraries, Aletheia's AI tutor responds dynamically to exactly what your child asks. It can explain any concept, generate custom practice problems, create personalized flashcards, and track mastery — all in a natural conversation.
Is Aletheia safe for children?
Yes. Aletheia is designed with child safety as a priority. The AI is configured to only discuss educational topics and will never generate inappropriate content. Conversations are logged for parental review, and children cannot interact with other users.
Is Aletheia COPPA compliant?
Yes. Aletheia is fully compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We do not collect personal information directly from children, do not show ads, and do not sell children's data. See our Privacy & COPPA article for full details.
How do children sign in?
Children sign in using a family code (tied to the parent account) and a personal 4-digit PIN. No email address or password is required for children, making it simple even for young learners.
How many children can I add?
- Free plan: 1 child profile
- Starter plan ($7.99/mo): 1 child profile with full features
- Family plan ($14.99/mo): Up to 5 child profiles
- Family+ plan ($24.99/mo): Up to 10 child profiles
Can I try Aletheia for free?
Yes! The Free plan gives you one child profile with up to 3 tutoring sessions per week (10 minutes each). No credit card required to sign up.
Does Aletheia test my child before starting?
Yes — when you add a subject for your child, Aletheia runs a short placement check (5–10 minutes) to find the right starting level. This means your child won't waste time on material they already know, and won't be thrown into content that's too advanced. See How the Placement Test Works for details.
What if the placement result seems wrong?
You can override the placement for any subject directly from your parent dashboard. Go to your child's profile, open the Subjects tab, and click Edit Placement next to the subject you want to adjust. See Understanding Placement Results for a full walkthrough.
Can my child retake the placement check?
Yes. From your parent dashboard, open your child's profile, find the subject, click Edit Placement, and select Reset to Placement Check. Your child will be prompted to complete it on their next session. You can also skip placement entirely for a subject if you prefer to start from the beginning.
What is Privacy Shield?
Privacy Shield is an optional feature available on Family and Family+ plans that routes AI processing through privacy-first infrastructure. This ensures that your child's conversations are not used for AI model training. See our Privacy article for more.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. There are no contracts or cancellation fees. Cancel from your account settings at any time — your plan remains active until the end of the current billing period.
What devices does Aletheia work on?
Aletheia is a web app that works on any modern device and browser — desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones. We recommend Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge.
Why do I need to verify my email?
When you sign up with an email address and password, we require a quick email verification before you can add children or subjects. This is required for three reasons:
1. Child safety — Verifying your email confirms you are a real parent or guardian, which is part of our COPPA compliance process. 2. Security alerts — We send important notifications (like failed login attempts) to your email. An unverified address means you could miss urgent alerts. 3. Account recovery — Your verified email is how you reset your password if you're ever locked out.
If you signed up with Google, your email is automatically verified — no action needed.
To verify: check your inbox for an email from `noreply@aletheiatutor.com` with subject "Verify your email — Aletheia" and click the button inside. Can't find it? Use the Resend verification email button on your dashboard. See our full Email Verification guide for more details.
How do I reset my password?
If you signed up with email and password and can't log in:
1. Go to aletheiatutor.com/signin and click Forgot password? (just below the password field) 2. Enter your email address and click Send reset link 3. Check your inbox for an email from `noreply@aletheiatutor.com` — you'll see "Reset your password — Aletheia" 4. Click the Reset My Password button in the email (valid for 1 hour) 5. Enter a new password and confirm it 6. You'll be redirected to sign in with your new password
> If you signed up with Google, you don't have a password — just click Continue with Google on the sign-in page.
I didn't receive a password reset email
A few things to check:
- Spam/Junk folder — check for email from `noreply@aletheiatutor.com`
- Wait a minute — delivery can occasionally take 60–90 seconds
- Correct email? — make sure you entered the same email address you signed up with
- Google account? — if you signed up with Google, there is no password to reset; use the Google button instead
- Rate limit — you can request up to 3 reset emails per hour. If you've hit that limit, wait an hour and try again.
If you've checked all of the above and still haven't received the email, contact support and we'll help you get back in.
I can't add my child — what's wrong?
There are two possible reasons:
1. Email not verified — If you signed up with email and password, you need to verify your email first. Look for the amber banner at the top of your dashboard and click Resend verification email, then check your inbox. See the Email Verification guide.
2. COPPA consent not completed — After email verification, federal law (COPPA) requires you to complete a one-time parental consent form before adding children under 13. You'll be prompted to do this automatically.
If you've done both and still can't add a child, contact support.
