You can tailor how Aletheia looks and sounds for each child. Most of these settings live in the child's settings page.

Opening a Child's Settings

  1. Go to Children.
  2. Click the gear icon on your child's card (or open View Details and click Settings).
  3. Pick a tab: Profile, Learning, Login, Safety, Experience, or Danger zone.

Language (Profile tab)

Under Language Preferences you can set two languages separately, each to English or EspaΓ±ol:

  • Interface Language: the language for buttons, menus, and navigation. Spanish currently covers parts of the child app, such as the tutor chat and the child's profile page. Some screens may still appear in English.
  • Tutor Language: the language the AI tutor uses during lessons and in Homework Helper.

Click Save Profile to apply your changes. Your child can also change both languages from their own Profile page.

Tip: Setting the interface to English and the tutor to EspaΓ±ol (or the other way around) can be a nice way to practice a second language.

Learning Accommodations (Learning tab)

The Learning Accommodations card has four options:

SettingWhat it does
ADHD-Friendly ModeThe tutor uses shorter responses, bullet points, frequent checkpoints, and one concept at a time.
Dyslexia-Friendly FontUses the OpenDyslexic font with extra letter spacing and line height.
Reduced StimulationCalmer colors, minimal animations, and simpler visual effects. The tutor also keeps its style calmer.
Break RemindersShows a gentle break reminder, with stretch or breathing ideas, during tutoring sessions. Choose Off, 10 min, 15 min, 20 min, 30 min, or 45 min.

Click Save Accessibility Settings to apply them.

These settings are saved to your child's profile, so they follow your child to any device they sign in on.

Sound Effects (Experience tab)

Sound Effects controls the chimes and sounds your child hears, such as quiz sounds, avatar unlocks, and streaks. Choose On or Off, then click Save Sound Settings.

Your child can also mute sounds during a session. If you turn sound effects Off, they stay muted no matter what your child chooses.

This setting is saved to your child's profile and applies on every device.

Read Aloud (Child's Profile page)

Read-aloud (text-to-speech) is controlled from your child's own Profile page in the child app. It's called Read Out Loud for ages 5–7 and Text-to-Speech for older children.

When a child profile is created, read-aloud starts on for ages 5–10 and off for ages 11–18. Your child can switch it on or off at any time from their Profile page.

Voice Quality (Experience tab)

Voice Quality sets the voice used when the tutor reads aloud:

  • Premium: a natural, warm Google WaveNet voice with age-adaptive pacing. It may take a moment (about 0.5 to 1.5 seconds) to start. This is the default.
  • Standard: the browser's built-in voice. It plays instantly, but quality varies by device.

Your choice saves as soon as you click it. If Premium isn't available, Aletheia falls back to Standard automatically.

Important: Voice Quality is saved only in the browser where you choose it, not on your child's profile. If your child uses a different device or browser, open this setting on that device to change it there. Otherwise, their device uses Premium.
