Aletheia has two ways to share your family:
| Co-parent | Caregiver | |
|---|---|---|
| Who it's for | Another parent or guardian | Grandparents, aunts, uncles, other family |
| Which children | All children in the family | Only the children you choose |
| What they can do | Almost everything you can (see below) | View progress and send avatar gifts |
| How many | One co-parent (two parents per family) | Several |
Both are managed from Settings â Family.
Co-Parents
Owner vs co-parent
The parent who created the family is the Owner. The person you invite joins as a Co-parent.
Both parents can:
- See and manage every child profile, including subjects, settings, and conversation history
- Archive or delete child profiles (deleting a child is permanent for both of you)
Only the Owner can:
- Invite, resend, cancel, or remove a co-parent
- Change plans, cancel, or open the billing portal (a co-parent can view billing but can't change it)
Note: Because a co-parent has full access to every child, only invite someone you'd trust with your children's learning history.
Inviting a co-parent
- Go to Settings â Family
- Under Co-Parent Access, click Invite Co-Parent
- Enter their email address and click Send Invitation
The invitation appears as Invitation pending. While it's pending you can:
- Resend the email
- Cancel the invitation (the link stops working)
A family can have only two parents, so you can't send a new invitation while one is pending or after a co-parent has joined.
Pending invitations don't expire on their own. If you no longer need one, cancel it.
Accepting a co-parent invitation
Open the link in the invitation email. You'll see the family name and the children you'll have access to. Sign in with the email address the invitation was sent to.
- New to Aletheia: click Continue with Google using the invited email address. You'll join the family automatically.
- Already have an Aletheia parent account: sign in, then click Accept Invitation.
Note: Creating a new account with email and password isn't supported for an invited address right now. If the invited address isn't a Google account, ask the Owner to cancel the invitation and invite an address you can use with Google, or contact support.
If you already have children in your own account
Joining another family moves your parent account into that family. If your current account has child profiles, you must choose what happens to them before you can join:
| Option | What happens |
|---|---|
| Bring my children to this family | Your children, their subjects, and their learning history move into the new family. Both parents in the new family can see and manage them. |
| Delete my children and join | Your children's profiles and all their learning data are permanently deleted. This cannot be undone. |
| Cancel | Nothing changes. You stay in your current family. |
Warning: Deleting is permanent. If you're unsure, choose Cancel, and consider downloading your data first from Settings â Privacy â Download My Data.
A few more things to know:
- Child PINs may be reset. If the family you're joining already has children who sign in with a PIN, the PINs on the children you bring are cleared. You'll see a notice on your dashboard. Set a new PIN from each child's profile before they sign in again.
- Shared families can't be abandoned. If you're the Owner of a family that already has a co-parent and children, you'll need to remove that co-parent before you can join another family.
- You become a co-parent. In the new family you're the Co-parent, not the Owner.
Removing a co-parent
The Owner can click Remove next to the co-parent and confirm. The co-parent immediately loses access to all children in the family. Their Aletheia login still works, but it opens an empty family of their own.
Removing a co-parent doesn't delete any child data.
Deleting your account when you share a family
Settings â Privacy â Delete All Data works differently when there are two parents:
- Another parent remains: only your parent account and personal data are deleted. Your children and their learning history stay with the other parent. If you were the Owner, the other parent becomes the Owner.
- You're the only parent: your whole family is deleted, including all children. You'll need to cancel any active subscription first.
Caregivers
Caregivers are relatives who want to follow along without managing anything. They sign in to a separate, simpler Family Portal.
Inviting a caregiver
- Go to Settings â Family
- Under Family Caregivers, click Invite
- Enter their Name and choose a Relationship: Grandparent, Aunt, Uncle, or Other Family
- Under Which children can they see?, tick only the children they should see (all children are ticked by default)
- Choose how to send it:
- Email: we email them the invitation link
- Link Only: we create a link you can share yourself
- Enter their Email (required either way; it becomes their sign-in) and click Send Invitation or Create Invitation
You'll get a copyable invitation link either way. If the email couldn't be sent, you'll see Email could not be sent. Share the link with them directly.
Note: Treat the invitation link like a key. Anyone who opens it before your caregiver does can set up the account. Only share it privately with the person you invited.
A caregiver's email can only be connected to one family at a time.
How caregivers sign in
From the invitation link, the caregiver either:
- clicks Accept with Google (using the invited email), or
- creates a password and clicks Accept & Create Account, then signs in on the normal sign-in page
After that, they sign in at the regular Aletheia sign-in page and land in the Family Portal.
Note: Password reset isn't available for caregiver accounts yet. If a caregiver forgets their password, they can use Accept with Google if the invited email is a Google account, or you can revoke their access and invite them again so they can set a new password.
What caregivers can see
For each child you shared, caregivers see:
- Progress: subjects, progress percentage, topics completed, concepts mastered, number of sessions, learning time, and streaks
- Insights: subject health, recommendations, recent celebrations, and a Dinner Table Conversation card with suggested questions. This card can include a short excerpt of the tutor's most recent message to your child.
- Achievements: quizzes completed, perfect scores, and avatar items unlocked
Caregivers can't see full conversation history, and they can't change settings, subjects, or profiles.
The one thing caregivers can change: gifts
The Family Portal labels access as Read-only, but caregivers can use the Send Gift tab to unlock avatar items for a child. The child sees the item next time they sign in, labeled as a gift from that caregiver. Gifts only add avatar items. They don't affect learning, stars, or settings.
Changing or revoking caregiver access
In Settings â Family â Family Caregivers, each caregiver shows a status (Pending or Active) and the children they can see.
- To revoke access: click the remove icon next to the caregiver and confirm Revoke Access. It takes effect immediately. Revoking a pending invitation also disables its link.
- To change which children they see: revoke access, then invite them again with the same email and the right children. They'll need to accept the new invitation and set up their sign-in again.
Note: The Family Caregivers list shows the caregivers you invited. If your co-parent invited a caregiver, your co-parent manages that caregiver from their own account.
