Some subjects start with a quick check before your first lesson. That's the placement test. It helps the tutor find the right place to start, so you don't have to redo things you already know.
When Does It Happen?
The placement check shows up the first time you open a subject, if your parent has placement turned on for that subject. Not every subject has one. Some lesson-based subjects start straight away with lessons.
Home may show Take placement or Quick warm-up on a subject card when a check is waiting.
How It Works
- It is a short set of questions about the topics in that subject.
- It changes as you go. How you answer helps decide what comes next.
- There can be one to three rounds. It may stop early once the tutor has what it needs.
- There's no timer. Most kids finish in a few minutes, but take your time.
You can tap Read question aloud to hear a question.
It's not a grade. Getting some questions wrong is normal. That's how the tutor finds where to start.
Can I Skip It?
Yes. On the first screen, tap Skip or Skip for now. The tutor will then start the subject from the beginning.
Changed your mind? Open the subject again and look in the topics panel for Take placement test (Take a quiz to skip ahead! for younger kids).
Can I Stop in the Middle?
Yes. Tap Exit assessment (Exit for younger kids). Your answers are saved. Next time you open the subject, tap Continue to pick up where you left off.
What Happens After?
When you finish, you see a list of topics with a label for each one:
- Mastered â you already know this well.
- Familiar â you know some of it.
- Unknown â this is new for you.
Then tap the button to start learning. Your tutor begins at the right spot for you. If you already knew every topic, you get a special celebration for the whole subject.
Your parent can see your placement results too.
Can I Retake It?
Only your parent can reset a finished placement check. Ask them if you think it should be redone, for example if you were nervous the first time.
Tips
- Answer honestly. If you don't know, it's okay to say so.
- Don't get outside help. It works best when it shows what you know.
- Relax. Every starting point is the right one for you today.
